DIDDLEBURY, Shropshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

"DIDDLEBURY, a parish in the lower division of the hundred of Munslow, in the county of Salop, 6½ miles N. of Ludlow. It is situated on the river Corve, and contains Great and Little Sutton, Westhorpe, Lawton, Penton, Upper and Lower Park, Poston, Middlethorpe, Sparchford, Corfton, Earnstrey Park, and Burwood. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Hereford, value with the donative curacy of Westhorpe, £358, in the patronage of the dean and chapter.

The church, dedicated to St. Peter, is in the early English style. There is a National school for both sexes, and a chapel-of-ease at Westhorpe. The charities produce £44 per annum, chiefly the bequest of Mary Valentine, in 1822. There is a large encampment called Corfton Camps, and traces of the alien priory once belonging to the Abbot of Seez, in Normandy."
