"GREAT BOLAS, a parish in the Newport division of the hundred of BRADFORD (South), county of SALOP, 1 mile (W. by N.) from Newport, containing, with Meeson, 274 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Salop, and diocese of Lichtield and Coventry, rated in the king's books at £7. 9. 4., and in the patronage of Sir R. Hill, Bart. The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist."
