"LEIGHTON, a parish in the Wellington division of the hundred of BRADFORD (South), county of SALOP, 5 miles (N. by W.) from Much Wenlock, containing 375 inhabitants. The living is' a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Salop, and diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, rated in the king's books at £7. 12. 6., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty. Miss Maddocks was patroness in 1816. The church is dedicated to St. Mary."
