"ST. MARTIN, a parish in the Upper division of the hundred of Oswestry, county Salop, half a mile S.E. of Chirk. The Ellesmere canal passes through the parish, and is carried across the valley of the Ceiriog by means of an aqueduct, near Chirk, where it enters Wales. The village, which is situated on the road from London to Holyhead, is very considerable. There are collieries near the Welsh border."
