Description from Cassell's Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland, 1899

"The Parish is near the River Severn, South Salop, 4 miles East of Much Wenlock; acreage 1,376. The church of St John (restored and enlarged 1880) is Norman, Early English and Late Perpendicular and contains several monuments to the Weld and Forester families; a small memorial chapel contains a fine monument by Sir J. E. Boehm to Lord Forester. The Forester charities were left for the purpose of establishing a cottage hospital and a convalescent home.

Willey Hall, a freestone mansion in a well-timbered park, is a seat.

Nearest railway station, Linley (2 miles). Distance from London, 154 miles. Population, 148 (Census 1891)."
