"ALPHETON, a parish in the hundred of Babergh, in the county of Suffolk, 8 miles to the N. of Sudbury. A feeder of the river Stour runs through it. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ely, value £275, in the patronage of the Rev. W. J. Aislabie, the rector."
