"BRAMFIELD, a parish in the hundred of Blything, in the county of Suffolk, 3 miles to the S. of Halesworth. Saxmundham is its post town. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Norwich, of the value of £172, in the patronage of the lord chancellor. The church, which is dedicated to St. Andrew, was entirely repaired by Abel Smith, Esq., M. P., in 1847, and contains a monument to Arthur, third son of Sir Edward Coke. It has a round tower standing detached. The parochial charities, consisting of the income of an almshouse for 4 persons, and a small free school, amount to about £30 per annum. The National school was erected at the sole expense of Mr. Smith, in 1847. Bramfield Hall is the chief residence."
