"THORNHAM MAGNA, a parish in the hundred of Hartismere, county Suffolk, 3 miles S.W. of Eye, its post town, and 2 S.E. of Mellish railway station. The village is situated on the road from London to Norwich by way of Ipswich. The living is a rectory* with that of Thornham Parva consolidated, in the diocese of Norwich, joint value 497. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, has monuments to the Major and Henniker families. The register dates from 1555. The parochial charities produce about 10 per annum. The Hall is the principal residence. Lord Henniker is lord of the manor."
