"CHARLCOMBE, a parish and small village in the hundred of Hampton, in the county of Somerset, 1 mile from the city of Bath. The Charlcombe water-works for the supply of Bath are in this parish, and the Great Western railway passes near it. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £200, in the patronage of the Mayor and Corporation of Bath, as trustees. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is a very ancient stone edifice, said to have been at one period the parish church of the city of Bath."
