Charlinch

"CHARLINCH, a parish in the hundred of Cannington, in the county of Somerset, 30 miles from Bridgwater, and 9 from Taunton. It is situated on the river Perret, or Parrot, about 5 miles distant from the Bridgwater station on the Great Western railway. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £400, in the patronage of Lord Taunton. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is an old stone edifice, of no particular style of architecture, containing monuments and tablets to the family of the celebrated Admiral Blake. The register commences in 1631. There is a mixed school for the village children. Gothelney House, now converted into a homestead, is a fine old edifice of the 15th century, in the Norman style of architecture. Here live in common, at the "Agapemone," or "Abode of Love," a sect of Princeites, or Lampeters, chiefly consisting of persons of fortune. The lord of the manor is Lord Taunton."
