"CHELVEY, a parish in the hundred of Hartcliffe, in the county of Somerset, 8 miles S.W: of Bristol, and 1 from the Nailsea station of the Bristol and Exeter railway. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £142, in the patronage of J. Cooke, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Bridget, is an ancient edifice in the perpendicular style of architecture, and possesses a register which dates from 1735."
