"CHELWOOD, a parish in the hundred of Keynsham, in the county of Somerset, 2 miles E. of Pensford, and 7 S.E. of Bristol. It is situated on the road to Wells. Coal has been found in the parish, which is well wooded. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £200, in the patronage of the bishop. The church, dedicated to St. Leonard, is an ancient stone edifice, not long since restored. The charities amount to £87 per annum."
