"CHEW STOKE, a parish in the hundred of Chew, in the county of Somerset, 8 miles from Bristol, and 1 S.W. of Chew Magna. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £305, in the patronage of the Rev. W. P. Wait. The church, dedicated to St. Andrew, is an ancient stone edifice. The Wesleyans have a place of worship, and there is a National school, partly endowed. A good library and reading-room was built in 1855. The charities amount to £20 per annum."
