Cothelstone

"COTHELSTONE, a parish in the hundred of Taunton, in the county of Somerset, 5 miles N.W. of Taunton, and 2 from Bishop Lydeard station. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £58, in the patronage of Viscount Kingston. The church, dedicated to St. Thomas of Canterbury, is a plain, small building, consisting of chancel, south aisle, and tower with six bells, and contains some beautiful monuments to the Stawells. Here is a hill 1,250 feet above the level of the sea, from the summit of which a view of eleven counties may be obtained. E. J. Esdaile, Esq. is lord of the manor, and resides at Cothelstone Park."
