"EXTON, a parish in the hundred of Williton, county Somerset, 5 miles N.E. of Dulverton, its post town, and 9 S.W. of Dunster. The main road between these two places passes through the parish. It is situated on the river Exe, and includes the hamlet of Bridgetown. The village stands on an eminence overlooking the river. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £291. The church is an ancient edifice of stone, dedicated to St. James. There are several small charities producing about 20s. per annum. Captain J. G. Evered is lord of the manor.
