"KITTISFORD, a parish in the hundred of Milverton, county Somerset, 12 miles from Taunton, and 6 N.W. of Wellington, its post town and railway station. The village, which is small, is situated on the Western canal and the river Tone. The soil is clayey, and subsoil red chilly. Building stone is quarried. At a farm called Cothay is supposed to have been anciently a small monastery. The living is a rectory's in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £230. The church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, is an ancient structure with a tower containing three bells. A Sunday-school is held in the rectory-house. Robert C. T. Pearce, Esq., is lord of the manor."
