North Stoke

"NORTH STOKE, a parish in the hundred of Bath Forum, county Somerset, 7 miles E. of Bristol, its post town, and 4½ N.W. of Bath. The village is situated on the river Avon, under Lansdown Hill, from which the family of Petty take the title of marquis. The soil in the upper part rests upon oolite, and in the lower grounds, near the river, upon clay. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £190.
