Odcombe

"ODCOMBE, a parish in the hundred of Houndsborough, county Somerset, 3 miles W. of Yeovil, and about the same distance from South Petherton, its post town. The village, which is of small extent, is chiefly agricultural. The soil consists of sand and clay. About half the land is arable, the remainder pasture and meadow. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £370, and the glebe comprises 50 acres. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £461, in the patronage of Christ Church, Oxford. The Church, dedicated to SS. Peter and Paul, has a tower containing a clock and six bells. The register dates from 1669. The parochial charities produce about £9 per annum. There is a British school for children of both sexes, in which a Sunday-school is also held. W. Philips, Esq., is lord of the manor."
