"STAPLE-FITZPAINE, a parish in the hundred of Abdick, county Somerset, 6½ miles S.E. of Taunton, its post town. The village is small and wholly agricultural. The living is a rectory with that of Bickenhall annexed, in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £600. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, is an ancient structure with a square tower containing five bells. The parochial charities produce about £40 per annum, which go to Sir W. Portman's almshouses.
