"WEST BUCKLAND, a parish in the western division of the hundred of Kingsbury, in the county of Somerset, 2 miles to the E. of Wellington, its post town. It lies near the confines of Devonshire, at the N. foot of Blackdown Hill. The Bristol and Exeter railway runs near it. The living is a perpetual curacy annexed to the vicarage of Wellington, in the diocese of Bath and Wells. The church, which is old, and partly in the Norman style, is dedicated to St. Mary. The parochial charities are of small value." From The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868) Transcribed by Colin Hinson © 2003
