Ansty
"ANSTEY, a parish in the hundred of Dunworth, in the county of Wilts, 5 miles to the S.E. of Hendon. It is situated at the foot of White-street Hill. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Salisbury, value £22, in the patronage of Lord Arundel. The church, the most ancient in the diocese, is dedicated to St. James. A preceptory of the Knights' Hospitallers was founded in this parish in the reign of King John, by Walter de Turberville, part of which is still remaining, and is used as a barn. The revenue of the house, at the Dissolution, was £81. Anstey was the birthplace (1590) of Dr. Richard Zouch, the great lawyer, who was judge of the Admiralty court, in the reign of Charles I."[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868) - Transcribed by Colin Hinson ©2003]
