"BRAMSHAW, a parish chiefly in the hundred of Redbridge, in the county of Southampton, but partly also in the hundred of Camden and Cadworth, in the county of Wilts, 6 miles to the N. of Lyndhurst, its post town. It includes the hamlets of Brook and Fritham. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Salisbury, value £161, in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Salisbury. The church is an ancient structure, dedicated to St. Peter. It is said to have been founded at the period of the Conquest, but its original character has been lost through modern alterations. Bramshaw House is one of the chief residences."
