Plaitford
"PLAITFORD, a parish in the hundred of Alderbury, county Wilts, 6 miles W. of Romsey, its post town, and 11 S.E. of Salisbury. The village, which is small and straggling, is situated near the northern frontier of the New Forest, on the road from Salisbury to Southampton. It is wholly agricultural. The land is partly in common and heath. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £170, and there are 4 acres of glebe. The living is a perpetual curacy annexed to the rectory of West Grimstead, in the diocese of Sarum. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. There is a National school. Plaitford is in the South-East corner of Wiltshire, 10 miles SE of Salisbury and 4 miles SW of Romsey (Hampshire). Later in Hampshire. Grid Ref SU276194. Population 263 in 1831, 442 in 1951 with Melchet Park.
