"DAYLESFORD, a parish in the upper division of the hundred of Oswaldslow, in the county of Worcester, 2½ miles E. of Stow-on-the-Wold. Tanner says that Ethelbald, King of Mercia, gave this place, A.D. 718, to one Begia, [in order] that a monastery might be built. Duke Ælfgar gave it to the monks of Evesham in the time of Edward the Confessor. It was exempted from the interdict in the reign of John. The parish is of small extent, but extremely fertile. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Worcester, value £152, in the patronage of Mrs. Hastings."
