ELDERSFIELD, Worcestershire

"ELDERSFIELD, a parish in the lower division of the hundred of Pershore, county Worcester, 7 miles W. of Tewkesbury, its post town, and 8 S.W. of Upton-on-Severn. It includes the hamlets of Rue Green and Link End. Stone for building is quarried. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Worcester, value £290. The church is a stone structure, with an embattled tower surmounted by a spire. It is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The parochial charities produce about £40 per annum, £18 of which is for education. The Wesleyans have a chapel. There is a National school, also Sunday-schools. Sir Edmund A. H. Lechmere, Bart., is lord of the manor. On a neighbouring eminence, called Gadbury Hill, are traces of a Roman camp."
