HAMPTON LOVETT, Worcestershire

"HAMPTON LOVETT, a parish in the upper division of the hundred of Halfshire, county Worcester, 1½ mile N. of Droitwich, its post town. It is a small agricultural parish situated on the road from Droitwich to Kidderminster. The Birmingham and Worcester canal and the Birmingham and Gloucester railway pass within a few miles of the village. Hampton Court, the seat of the Pakington family, to whom the manor has belonged for several centuries, was destroyed during the civil war of Charles I. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £323 10s., including the tithes of the glebe. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Worcester, value £300. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is an ancient stone structure, with a tower containing three bells. Adjoining is the mortuary chapel of the Pakington family, where Dr. Hammond was buried in 1660. West Park, the principal residence, is the seat of the Right Hon. Sir John Pakington, Bart."
