"NUN APPLETON, in the parish of Bolton Percy, in the Ainsty, Yorkshire, bet. Selby and York city, so called from a nunnery, which, after the Ref. was the seat of Tho. Ld. Fairfax, general of the Pt. army, and since his time, that of the D. of Buckingham, as it is now of Sir Will. Milner, Bart."
