"BARMBY MOOR, a parish in the Wilton-Beacon division of the wapentake of Harthill, in the East Riding of the county of York, 2 miles from Pocklington. York is its post town. It was formerly a market town, and received the grant of various privileges. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of York, of the value of £97, in the patronage of the Archbishop of York. The church is dedicated to St. Catherine. There are several charities, including bequests for a school, amounting to £53 per annum. There is a Wesleyan chapel. An annual fair is held on the Thursday before St. Peter's Day."
