Geographical and Historical information from the year 1868.

"COWLAM, a parish in the wapentake of Buckrose, in the East Riding of the county of York, 6 miles N.W. of Great Driffield, its post town. The living is a rectory in the diocese of York, value £300, in the patronage of the Rev. T. Bowes, who is lord of the manor. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, was built on the site of the old one in 1852. It possesses several stained-glass windows, and an old font."
