"ESCRICK, a parish in the E.R. of Yorkshire."


"ESCRICK HALL, in the parish of Escrick, in the E.R. of Yorkshire, on the Ouse, to the S. E. of York, the seat of Sir Thomas Knivet, who made the search under the Pt.-house in the R. of K. James I. and discovered Guy Faux ready to set fire to the barrels of gun-powder. It has ever since given title of Baron to a branch of the Howards."
