Ludewig Johan Wilhelm Ernst Heinrich Davidis, born 1794 in Westphalia, West Prussia, married Sarah Anne Hitching, baptised 1813, at Luddenden, near Halifax, at Halifax in 1837.
English records state his full name as Louis John William Ernest Henry Davidis.
He used the name Ernest or Ernst.
Ernst was a son of Ernst Heinrich Davidis, a vicar, and his wife Maria Catherina, nee Litthauer, and a brother of Henriette Davidis, Henriette Davidis - Wikipedia
Ernst came to England in 1826 and had businesses in Halifax. Ernst's: Davidis Ernst & Company were wine & spirit merchants at Upper George Yard, in 1829, and manufacturers & merchants at 5 Lord Street, Halifax, in 1837.
Their eldest daughter Adeline Hitching Davidis was born in 1838 and was baptised in Halifax in 1839. She married George Hoffman, born 1843, Prussia, in 1871, at Monk Fryston. She died on 24th August 1873, at Portishead, a few months before the death of he
r infant son, George Bertram Reinhold Heaton Hoffmann, born 3rd October 1872.
Their second daughter Annie Elizabeth Davidis was born on 25th July 1840 in Frielinghausen, Germany and she was baptised on 4th October 1840, in Dortmund.
Maria Davidis, 1842 - 1842, died aged 5 months, and is buried at Rylstone.
The family was resident in Filey in the 1851 census and 1861 census, and in 1871 in Scarborough. In 1875 Sarah and Annie Elizabeth, their middle daughter, were living in St. Leonard's-on-Sea. Later they lived in Tunbridge Wells.
Sarah Anne moved to live abroad in 1891. She was living at the Villa Peyronnet, Menton, France, when she died in 1896.
Annie Elizabeth was resident in Menton, when she died in 1907.
The Villa Peyronnet is now famed for its gardens, planted by William Waterfield, 1942 - 2021.
