Geographical and Historical information from the year 1868.

"SKIRPENBECK, a parish, partly in the wapentake of Buckrose, and partly in the liberty of St. Peter's, East Riding county York, 6 miles N.W. of Pocklington, its post town, and 10 N.E. of York. The village, which is of small extent, is situated on the Beck, a branch of the river Derwent, which bounds the parish on the W. About one-third of the land is meadow and pasture, and the remainder arable. The soil is a strong clay, except along the course of the Beck, where it is a rich loam. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of York, value £232, in the patronage of the lord chancellor. The church is an ancient edifice, with a monument to the Paget family."
