The place:

A parish town, in the north-division of Holderness, Liberty of St. Peter; 8 miles from Hedon, 12 from Beverley and Hull, 17 from Driffield. Population 370. The Church, a prebendal peculiar, is a vicarage, dedicated to St. Alban, in the deanery of Holderness.
