A parish, in the wapentake of Gilling West; 3 miles from Reeth, 9 from Barnard Castle (Co. Durham), 11 from Leyburn, 13 from Richmond and Askrigg, 56 from York. Population 1,512. The Church, a lay peculiar, is a perpetual curacy in the deanery of Richmond, diocese of Chester.
