The place:

A parish in the wapentake of Gilling West, partly in the lay peculiar jurisdiction of Arkengarthdale; 4½ miles from Richmond, 7 from Catterick, 8 from Gretabridge, 48 from York. Population 161. The Church is a perpetual curacy, dedicated to St. Peter and St. Felix, in the deanery of Richmond, diocese of Chester.
