Area, 3,750 acres. Gilling East and Allertonshire wapentakes. -Population, 510 *1; Church-room, 175 ; Net value, with Appleton upon Wiske, £472 -The Church was given, by Hardwin des Escalliers, to the Abbey of St. Mary, in York.

Valued in. the King's Books, at £13. 13s. 4d.

The glebe house is fit for residence.

The Register Books commence in 1650; part defective.

Charities:
Mrs. Morton Middleton's charity, by will, in 1734. Interest of £20, among the poor of Appleton township. -Vide 7th Report, page 613.
