Funeral Pall:

THE FUNERAL PALL OF GEORGE GODOLPHIN OSBORNE. 8TH DUKE OF LEEDS
WHO DIED IN 1872. THE PALL FORMERLY HUNG, AS A BANNER IN THE
LEEDS CHAPEL UNTIL IT WAS REMOVED IN 1983 and sent to THE
TEXTILE CONSERVATION UNIT AT LEEDS FOR RESTORATION. THE COST
OF THE REPAIR AND CLEANING AS WELL AS THE FRAME WAS BORNE BY A
MEMBER WHO WISHES TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS. BY PLACING THIS PALL
ON THE NORTH WALL WE HAVE RETURNED IT TO THE CLOSE PROXIMITY
OF THE 'LEEDS VAULTS' AND CLOSE TO THE GAUNTLETS WHICH WERE
RESTORED IN 1982.

N.B. Pall features elaborate lettering: 'G G O'

Plaque Number C13

Gauntlets:

These Gauntlets and the portion of bridle once belonged to Sir
Edward Osborne who resided at Thorpe Hall. Sir Edward was an
ardent Cavalier and these pieces of armour may well have seen
battle during the Civil War. The Helmet and the Lion Crest,
which with the Gauntlets were hung in the Leeds Chapel and rested
there for over a century, were stolen a few years ago from the
church. Sir Edward Osborne died in 1647 at the age of 51 years.
He is buried in the Vault and his memorial is affixed to the
North Wall of the Chapel.

THE GAUNTLETS HAVE BEN RESTORED TO THEIR ORIGINAL COLOURS.
