"BROXA, in the parish of Hackness, wapentake and liberty of Whitby Strand; 1½ miles WNW. of Hackness, 8½ miles NW. of Scarborough. Population, 61."


"DEEPDALE, a farm house and cottage in the township of Suffield-cum-Everley, and parish of Hackness; 3 miles W. of Hackness, 6 miles from Scarborough."


"EVERLEY, a hamlet in the parish of Hackness, wapentake and liberty of Whitby Strand; 1 mile SSE. of Hackness, 4½ miles W. of Scarbro'."


"HARWOOD DALE, in the parish of Hackness, wapentake and liberty of Whitby Strand; 3¼ miles N. of Hackness, 8 miles NW. of Scarborough. Population, 235.

Querns and stone instruments have been dug up in this neighbourhood, for an account of which, see Young's Picture of Whitby, p. 764."
