Geographical and Historical information from the year 1834.

"LEAKE, a parish in the wapentake & liberty of Allertonshire;"


"BORROWBY, is a township, in the parish of Leake, - the part which is in the wapentake of Allertonshire, in the same Riding as Thirsk, five miles north from that town. Linen weaving and bleaching is carried on by one establishment here ; and there is a place of worship for Wesleyan methodists. Population of the township, by the returns for 1831, 350.

"KNAYTON, is a small village, in the township of Knayton-with-Brawith, and parish of Leake, one mile from Borrowby ; pleasantly situate a little off the road leading from Thirsk to Stockton. Population of the township, by the last returns, 336.
