The place:

A Chapelry in the parish of Northallerton, wapentake of Allertonshire, and in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Dean and Chapter of Durham; 1½ miles from Northallerton, 13½ from Yarm, 14½ from Stokesley. Population 1,223. The Church is a perpetual curacy.
