Geographical and Historical information from the year 1834.

"SEAMER, is an agricultural village in the parish of its name, about 4 miles from Scarborough, situate on the road to Great Driffield. The places of worship are, the parish church, dedicated to St. Martin, and a chapel for Wesleyan methodists. Seamer is a vicarage, of which the Rev. Henry Foord is incumbent, and the Rev. Edmund Dowker his present curate. The living is in the gift of W.J.Denison, Esq. M.P., who has founded a school here for the instruction of poor children of the neighbourhood. This place derives some importance from its great fair, held on the 15th of July, and a market on the first Monday in every month, for cattle and sheep. The parish contained at the last census, 981 inhabitants, and the township 514 of that number.
