"ALDBOROUGH, a parish in the wapentake of Claro."
"BOROUGHBRIDGE, an ancient market town and borough, in the parish of Aldborough, on the great north road, and on the south side of the river Ure, formerly sent two representatives to parliament; but like its smaller neighbour, Aldborough it was disfranchised by the Reform Bill. It contains only 950 inhabitants, and is in the lower division of Claro Wapentake, distant 6 miles S E of Ripon; 118 miles N W by W of York; 25 miles N of Leeds; and 202 miles N N W of London. It has a Market for corn &c. every Saturday and three large fairs held annually, viz on April 27th and 28th and Oct 23rd and 24th, for cattle and on June 22nd and 23rd for cattle, horse, hardware, &c. Its History will be given with the rest of Aldborough parish in Vol II."
