"BARNBY DUN, a parish in the southern division of the wapentake of Strafforth and Tickhill, in the West Riding of the county of York, 5 miles to the N.E. of Doncaster, its post town. It is a station on the South Yorkshire railway. Thorp-in-Balne is a township of this parish The living is a vicarage in the diocese of York, value £115, in the patronage of J. N. Newsome, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. The charitable endowments amount to £59. They consist chiefly of the Countess of Sutherland's bequest for the benefit of the poor, and of endowments of a free school. The Wesleyans have a chapel here."
