CAWTHORNE:
Geographical and Historical information from the year 1834.

"CAWTHORNE, is a village, in the parish of its name, with no dependent township. The parish adjoins that of Silkstone, and the village is about two miles north therefrom, and four and a half w.n.w. from Barnsley. The church is dedicated to All Saints : the living is a perpetual curacy, in the gift of certain landholders of the parish. Population at the census taken in 1831, 1,492, being fewer by 26 inhabitants than the parish contained by the returns made in 1821.
