Geographical and Historical information from the year 1835.

"FELKIRK, a parish in the wapentake of STAINCROSS, West riding of the county of YORK, 6 miles N.N.E. from Barnsley, comprising the townships of Brierly, Havercroft with Cold Hiendley, South Hiendley, and Shafton, and containing 1042 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £7. 1. 10., and in the patronage of the Archbishop of York. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. Prudence Berry, in 1637, bequeathed £ 6 towards the support of a schoolmaster in the parish, in augmentation of whose salary, £ 10.17.4. is paid by Viscount Galway, for teaching poor children of the township of Havercroft."
