The place: SYKEHOUSE.     Church dedication: CHAPEL.

Area, vide Fishlake. Strafforth wapentake, S.D. - Population, 617, vide Fishlake; Chapel-room, 270; Net value, £50.

Patrons, Trustees.

Valued in 1707 at £7. 11s. 8d. per annum, and in the Parliamentary Survey, vol. xviii. page 468, it is stated, " Sykehouse, alias Dowstron Chapel, three miles from Fishlake, and bad ways. Only £3. 6s. 8d. given for ever by Nicholas Waller, 106 families." Recommended to be made a parish.

Augmented in 1830 with £600 by lot. Glebe house fit for residence.

No return as to Registers.

Charities:
Poors land. 9a. 1r. 10p. of which 2a. 0r. 9p. were purchased with money by Mr. and Mrs. Dennis, for the teaching of poor children.

Rents-charge for the poor. Joseph Thoresby's, 13s. 4d. per annum; John Briggs's, 3s. 4d. per annum ; Ralph Smith's, 3s. 4d. per annum.

Township School. The master has the occupation of a house and about a rood of ground, and he receives two rents-charge of £1 each, donors unknown ; and he instructs fifteen free scholars in reading and writing. -Vide 17th Report, page 794.
