The place:

A parish-town, in the lower-division of Strafforth and Tickhill, Liberty of Tickhill; 4¾ miles from Doncaster, 10¼ from Barnsley, 41 from York. Population 137. The Church is a perpetual curacy, dedicated to St. James, in the deanery of Doncaster.
