Geographical and Historical information from the year 1835.

"KIRK SMEATON, a parish in the tipper division of the wapentake of OSGOLDCROSS, West riding of the county of YORK, 6 miles S.E. from Pontefract, containing 321 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £ 10. 1. 0., and in the patronage of Earl Fitzwilliam. The church is dedicated to St. Mary."
