The place:

A parish town, in the upper division of Claro; 5½ miles from Wetherby, 6½ from Knaresborough, 20½ from York. Population, including Swindon 370, which being united, form a township. The Church is a rectory, dedicated to All Saints, in the deanery of the Ainsty.
