The place:

A parish town, in the upper division of Strafforth and Tickhill; 7 miles from Rotherham, 7¾ from Worksop (Notts), 10¼ from Sheffield, 49 from York. Population 210. The Church is a rectory, dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul, in the deanery of Doncaster.
